Gilman Hall 3305

The Polymer Composites Research Group’s labs are all located in Gilman Hall 3113, 3154, 3252, 3277, and 3305.  This laboratory space includes numerous large fume hoods, ample bench space, and state-of-the-art equipment for characterizing and synthesizing polymers and composite materials.

Gel permeation chromatography (Waters) with UV and light scattering detectors

Instrumented impact machine (Dynatup)

Cone and plate viscometer (Brookfield)

Advanced materials testing system (Instron 5569) with 50kN and 2kN loadcells and various grips

Advanced Video Extensometer, for non-contact measurments of longitudinal and transverse strains

Environmental chamber for materials testing (-75 C to 350 C)

Dielectric Strength Tester (CEAST/Instron) with max voltage of 60 kV

Differential Scanning Calorimeter (Q2000, TA Inst.) with modulated temperature control, autosampling robot, and LN2 cooling system

Thermomechanical Analyzer (Q400, TA Inst.)

Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer (Q800, TA Inst.) with Gas Cooling Accessory

Controlled Stress Rheometer (AR2000ex, TA Inst.) with environmental test chamber

Thermomechanical Analyzer (Q400, TA Inst.)

Fiber Spin Line (DSM Xplore) to perform hot or cold drawing / stretching of mono filaments using independently controlled godets.
